These terms cover Face Terminal: this website and the face check API at https://face.unbackoffice.com. Face Terminal is run by unbackoffice ("we", "us"). By running a check, signing in or using a key, you agree to them.

1. Who can use it

• Face Terminal is for business use only, such as checking that a customer is the person on their ID.
• Sign in with your own work Google account. One account per person. Some invite codes also accept personal Google accounts.
• If you use it for an organisation, you confirm you may accept these terms for it.

2. Free checks, keys and referrals

• Before signing in, you can run 2 checks on this site. They show the outcome of each check but not the reasons behind it. We limit them per visitor and per network.
• When you first sign in, your key comes with 2 free checks. One check is one photo compared with one selfie. Checks you run on this site while signed in use checks from your keys.
• When a new person signs up through your referral link and gets their free checks, we add 5 checks to your key. Each person counts once, for the first link they signed up through. We limit how many referrals one account is rewarded for.
• Invite codes: we give some people a code to share. A new account that signs up with a valid code starts with the number of free checks the code gives instead. One code per account, for new sign-ups only. A code can have a limit on sign-ups or an end date, and we can end it at any time.
• Referring yourself, or creating extra accounts to collect checks, is not allowed. Checks gained that way can be removed.
• We limit how many free keys one company can hold.
• A check that fails to run is given back, up to a few times a day per key.
• Free checks have no cash value. We may change or end the free offer at any time. Checks already on an issued key stay usable unless the key is revoked under section 8.

3. Paid checks

You can buy more checks by requesting a tier on the tiers page. We contact you, confirm the price and send an invoice. We add the checks to your key once the invoice is paid. Checks you buy don't expire. Anything we agree in writing for a purchase applies on top of these terms.

4. Your key

• Keep your key secret. Use it from your own server, never in a browser or app that others can inspect.
• You are responsible for all use of your key. If it leaks, tell us and we will revoke it.
• A key works only for face checks (POST /v1/face/verify and POST /v1/face/flash).

5. Faces you send us

Face images are biometric data, which the law protects closely. When you check someone else (for example your customer), you decide to check them and why, and you are responsible for that decision. You must:

• have a lawful basis to process the person's face, and in most cases their explicit consent, before you send it;
• tell the person what you are doing, including that we process their images for you;
• check only the person in front of the camera against their own photo or ID, with their knowledge.

For the checks you send, we act as your processor: we use the images only to run the check, keep them for at most 24 hours, and then delete them. If you need a data processing agreement, ask us.

6. Acceptable use

You must not use Face Terminal to:

• identify unknown people, search for a person by their face, or check anyone without their knowledge;
• track, profile or monitor people, or infer their emotions, health, ethnicity or other sensitive traits;
• check children without the consent of a parent or guardian;
• test, train or tune ways to defeat face or liveness checks, except on your own systems with our written agreement;
• share or publish keys, use another person's account, or get around rate limits, quotas or key scopes;
• probe, disrupt or attack the service.

7. Results

• A result helps a person decide. It is not a certified biometric or liveness system and it can be wrong: it can miss a spoof or a different person, and it can flag a genuine person.
• Review every review and failed result yourself before you act on it. Do not make a decision with legal or similarly significant effect on a person based only on a result.
• You stay responsible for your own legal and regulatory obligations, including under data protection law and, where it applies, the EU Artificial Intelligence Act. We do not give legal advice.

8. Suspension and ending

We may limit, suspend or revoke a key or account if you break these terms, if we see abuse or a security risk, or if the law requires it. Where we reasonably can, we will tell you first. You can stop using Face Terminal at any time and ask us to close your account.

9. Ownership

We own Face Terminal and its software. You keep what you send us. You may use the results for your own identity checks and compliance work.

10. No guarantee

Face Terminal is provided "as is" and "as available". We do not promise it will be uninterrupted, error free or fit for a particular purpose. We may change the API or the service. We will try to give notice of changes that break existing integrations.

11. Liability

• We are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, or for lost profits, revenue, data or goodwill.
• Our total liability to you in any 12 months is limited to what you paid us in those 12 months, or EUR 100 if you paid nothing.
• Nothing in these terms limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited, such as for fraud.

12. Privacy

Our privacy notice explains what we collect and why.

13. Changes

We may update these terms. The date above shows the latest version. If a change is significant, we will say so on this site. Using Face Terminal after a change means you accept it.

14. Law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Cyprus, and its courts have jurisdiction. This does not take away rights you have under the law of the country where you live.
